The camp we baled into turned out to be fine, it was quiet and peaceful. The surroundings were pretty too.

We decided to go across country to Lindisfarne to have a bumble about in the estuary and dunes. It turned out well. The drive over was through very pleasant countryside and the the estuary presented nicely in the spring sunshine.

From there we've come down to an old favourite (coordinates). This is a cracking place for wildlife, walks on the massive and sometimes totally empty beach, and for training. Emma ran, I biked.

Sand martins are here in good numbers - my first summer visitor sighting. Plenty of other birdlife around, too with a pair of pintails and a 95% certain female scaup being the most notable.

We're planning to head home from here, it's been fun but too short.

Downsides have been Glasgow, the seemingly ever-increasing amounts of litter to be found absolutely everywhere you go, and an irritating trait that seems to bespoil many otherwise beautiful areas of Argyll and Bute: theft of land / two fingers to planning laws.

It seems there's a bit of a thing going on where people buy static caravans, plonk themselves in a spot where land ownership may be difficult to establish, for example just above high tide line, and then hunker down and wait for the local authority to grind through the nonsense of yuman rites legislation and countless thousands in public pound notes to rid us of the blight.

Gotta love the utterly selfish...
