A half-hour drive from Crinan saw us at another road end at another peninsular end (coordinates).
We intend to overnight here in spite of finding an odd character in the back of a small, windowless van when we first arrived. We thought the van was empty, belonging to a walker or something, but after a while this scruffy bloke - somewhere in his thirties or sixties - appeared by climbing over the seats from the back, stared at us intently a while, then climbed back into the back. He went after an hour or so: there are many, many odd people in the world.
After the army deserter / murderer left we managed to ease on to a raised bit of ground that offers brilliant views of the sea and the island of Scarba.
At one point I heard gulls kicking off about a kilometre away and after a bit of patient sweeping sussed out why: a golden eagle had appeared on the scene. We managed to watch it for about 15 minutes in total, sometimes wheeling around, sometimes perched on the ground. At one point it was quite close to a sheep up on a hillside and their sizes were comparable.
Awesome.
