Loafing - Day 2 - England

Things to remember:
  • Spent the entire day hopping between viewing points and hides created as part of the Outstrays to Skeffling nature reserve creation project that's being headed up by the Environment Agency and the local Internal Drainage Board. It looks like it's eventually going to be a really impressive bit of habitat creation.
  • At Outstrays, a first-light walk gave up some excellent sightings including hen harrier, great white egret and peregrine. I also clocked a less-than-normal looking 'blackbird' in a hawthorne that I was curious about: so made a mental note of.
  • All the new hides between Patrington and Skeffling have been worth a visit. Loads of birdlife around, the most unexpected of which was 9 x eiders about 150m off the estuary bank.
  • It's been very grey with a biting wind all day, which saw me resorting to a marsupial-pouch-like hot-water bottle stash all afternoon.
  • Trying a new overnighting spot, if it all works out it has decent potential for future use.
The 'blackbird'... well, a check up in my birdguide this evening has me convinced I've almost certainly bagged my first British ring ouzel sighting in the form of an immature bird in first-winter plumage, most likely on migration from Scandinavia to north Africa. Everything fits: how about that!
