Hauts-de-France Trip - Day 2 - France

Things to remember:
  • Hideously windy last night camper rocked violently all night - slept poorly.
  • Easy trip down to Dover but then stuck for 3/4 of an hour clearing French border control.
  • Dire gale conditions at Dover, only one ferry allowed to move at any one time in the port; and then only with the assistance of tugs (pic). Delayed an hour as a result.
  • Stayed out on rear (reasonably sheltered) deck for all of the crossing; in spite of wind and swell it wasn't - in reality - so bad.
  • Lots of seabirds followed us several miles, mainly gulls (inc kittiwakes) and also gannets. Also saw a few guillemots.
  • Smaller cargo ships at sea looked spectacular crashing through the swell.
  • France immediately felt chilled: as it (nearly) always does.
  • Really odd intended overnighting spot in the middle of a huge aggregate works: we'll see...
  • Water containers currently not sealing at all well and I also idiotically drowned the gas hob whilst making a hot-water bottle. Otherwise camper working OK (so far).
