Having a mooch out to try to see some birds and to test some finessing on my little camper. It's cold. With the northerly windchill it must be hovering around zero: good test, then.
First up was a truly scything-wind afternoon wandering around the gargantuan Alkborough Flats (pic). I saw scores of curlews, dozens of marsh harriers, as well as good numbers of the expected wildfowl and geese. Best sightings were a hunting peregrine, a fleeting glimpse of a couple of bearded tits and a few barnacle geese.
It's a brilliantly moonlit night at my intended overnighting spot and I've been able to watch buzzards, geese and hares through the bins well after nightfall.
