Superb camp again last night with a tawny owl in particular calling in a really unusual way at some unknown hour under perfectly dark skies.
The drive out from Kielder into the Scottish Borders threw up a bit of a disappointment, though. It's normally a painfully quaint drive through a perfectly proportioned river valley but today it was absolutely rammed with stacks of people tent-camping on every bit of riverside accessible by car. Said cars, too, were quite unexpected with lots being dropped and tuned spots-hatch types. I don't know if this is anything to do with the whole lockdown / staycation thing but without doubt it's an absolute blight.
The rest of the trip to the current location was a bit better, though; throwing up a common lizard and a dipper sighting.
The current location just outside Newcastleton is an excellent base for walking, mountain biking and gravel biking. There are formal MTB trails and a purpose-made cross-country-bike route that runs the Scotland / England border and takes in some good mixed terrain and genuinely beautiful landscapes (pic). Top spot.
