Scottish Borders Trip - Day 4 - England

Blogging at 21:30 on Saturday 5th June from N 55.14958°, W 02.77346° / http://maps.google.com/maps?q=loc:55.14958%2C-02.77346

Leaving the Newcastleton Forest car park down a really skinny road a driver coming towards us did a very kind thing and pulled into a gate hole to get out of the road. Unfortunately he over-egged it and drove straight into the adjoining ditch leaving his rear offside wheel about two feet in the air. Never a dull moment.

He seemed a decent sort, was of eastern European descent, and looked both bemused and semi-accepting of his new-found enforced parking spot in roughly equal measure.

It just wouldn't have been cricket to wave in gratitude and drive by, so we stopped to see what needed to be done. As it turns out, it wasn't such a faff. A combination of ditch wading and lifting (me), pushing (Emma), and over-zealous reversing (Eastern European) we popped the stricken vehicle back on to dry land, exchanged pleasantries and came to the coordinates shown for some lunch.

We've been here before and it's a cracking spot (pic) so we decided to extend lunch through the entire afternoon / evening, and are going to overnight here, too. It's teeming with birds with loads of siskins, a pair of redpolls and a possible lesser whitethroat being the more noteworthy.
