We crammed a lot in today. Biking, birding, a trip to Mallyan Spout waterfall (apparently the highest in the NY Moors National Park (pic)); and Emma even found time to hitch a ride on one of the famous NY Moors Railway steam trains between Levisham and Goathland, complete with bike. I say 'found time', truth be told, that's code for elegantly avoiding a couple of long and brutal 20-25% inclines that needed climbing on the route back to where we'd left the truck. Credit where it's due, though, it was a particularly cunning and evocative way of taking a chunk out of a tough ride. Cream tea and a steam train in glorious scenery versus grovelling at max heart rate whilst nearly tipping off sideways still clipped in. Hmmm...
Best sightings today have been an adder near the NY Moors railway at Newtondale Halt, golden plover on the moors above Goathland and a pair of woodcock flying across the road as night fell just north of Egton.
We were very late finding a camp tonight and have ended up settling for the coordinates shown, having basically run out of daylight. It's literally just a kip-and-move-on job, but seems right enough.
It's been really windy all day and as I type the trucks being rocked around quite a bit.
Hoping for a less frenetic day tomorrow.
