Emma heroically dragged herself out of bed this morning, jogged from our camp up the coast to Druridge Bay parkrun, did the run, then jogged back. The whippet sent the entire time watching out of the back of the truck waiting for her to reappear and - much to his relief - she eventually did.
The parkrun only just went ahead as the whole route was a giant black-ice skating rink. Runners were told to be sensible, not to try for PBs and to come back in one piece. All 147 did.
Unable to find the motivation, I watched birds. Druridge Bay never disappoints and hundreds of pink-footed geese, common scoters out to sea and an 80%-sure goshawk sighting were the highlights.
After we left the camp we more or less just covered ground to the North Yorkshire Moors where, after a full day of sensible roads, we've once again found ourselves on snowy / icy unclassified roads and though it's not nearly as bad as the worst period in Northumberland we're once again in diff-lock and low-ratio-box territory.
At the coordinates shown now where a twilight snow-scape quest with the bins threw up a woodcock. Unexpected and cool.
Come the night, the moon is bright and the snow and ice covered landscape magical.
