After we very carefully extricated ourselves from the Coquet valley we decided the day had been long enough so looked for a spot that would do for the night.
A chanced glance at an information board revealed that as long as red flags weren't flying we were OK to enter Ministry of Defence land and use the road network that criss-crosses a huge tract of land the MoD uses for training.
And so we did, and found a what seems like a top spot at a place called Holystone Common at the coordinates shown. There's even a bit of a nature reserve here.
It's very, very quiet and after some spectacular late afternoon light we're currently enjoying a brilliant moonscape and some truly dark skies.
