No sign of Paul McCartney but we did see stonechat and a peregrine; as well as plenty of gannets and greater black-backed gulls.
The drive down here was very pretty. We stuck to the coast road that runs down the east of Kintyre and it was mile after mile of veteran trees covered in lichen, awesome moss & liverwort-covered dells, and pretty views out to sea / the Isle of Arran.
From the Mull of Kintyre it's easy to see houses in Northern Ireland and we sat at the lighthouse for a good while just taking in the vast expanse of sea, Ireland and the island of Islay.
Ireland is clearly in view in the pic.
The last 8 miles to the lighthouse are tricky. The road is steep, broken and winding - and narrower than the truck's wheel track in places. Margins are boggy, peaty and sometimes the slopes off the road are unforgiving. It wouldn't take much to get it wrong. This is not a place to be messing with the sat nav.
The last mile of headland down to the lighthouse is by foot only and is pretty steep - not so bad going down but a devil coming back out. Awesome scenery though and well worth the effort.
