We got a knock from a policeman toting a sub-machine gun at about 7.00pm last night. He was from Dungeness nuclear power station and just wanted to make sure we didn't have the truck packed with high explosives. He was perfectly fine with us overnighting where we did and it turned out to be a very quiet spot, apart from the truck-rocking southwesterly wind battering in off the sea.
After breakfast we spent an interesting hour at the nuclear power station's visitor centre before having a steady drive off the marsh, stopping every few minutes to check out geese, gull and wildfowl flocks. It's a bird watcher's paradise.
By lunch we had hit Bodiam castle as per pic and coordinates. We'd researched it beforehand and it was due to be open today. However, the National Trust in its self-important wisdom had decided to amend opening hours at the very last minute and deny us our right to our heritage by dint of scruffily handwritten note. We had a wander round the grounds anyway and spotted a Mandarin duck on the moat, so all was not lost.
Shame it was shut, it looks like a proper fairytale jobbie. Slow handclap to the guardians of our national treasures.
