The bird life on the Marshes is brilliant. We went to the RSPB reserve at Dungeness and after less than an hour had seen thousands of gulls, wildfowl, oddities like stonechat, and some real specialities too. We saw a first-for-us-both: great egret, and had a first-for-Emma (and my best ever) sighting of a bittern. It flew - quite nonchalantly - over reed beds and some open water, and we watched it for a good 30 seconds or so before it disappeared back into the reeds; quite possibly for the next 20 years.

Pic is a general Romney Marsh shot showing the peculiarity of the landscape.

We're now at the location shown, right at the tip of the gravelly end of England. From here, the next closest rough camp in my database is in France!

This very corner of England is odd in several ways, many houses are no more than wooden shacks, apparently held together by random stuff that's washed up on the beach. Also seen some dwellings made from old railway carriages. People seem quite nice, though.
