Last night's camp was quiet enough and served its purpose but as we had a wander about this morning it became apparent that the area was heavily used by campers. Many remnants of open fires, lots of litter, and a general bespoiled feeling. We won't stay there again.
Dumfries and Galloway has been otherwise awesome. Very, very quiet and incredibly sparsely populated. The scenery is magnificent and camping off formal sites, once away from coastal honey-pots, has been ridiculously easy.
The bird life has been diverse and has a different feel to mainstream GB. Undoubtedly the north-western promontory is hugely influential, especially at migration time. Forgot to mention that we saw the first house martin of the year yesterday and during the really scenic and quiet drive back towards the English border this morning we had a lucky merlin sighting as it swooped into a river valley just in front of the truck.
Awesome place altogether and a hugely enjoyable trip.
