Colonsay Trip - Day 2 - Arran

Last night's overnighting spot was a charm, and definitely one for the database.

Today's involved a hop from the mainland to Arran.

Things to remember:
  • Did Troon parkrun before catching the Arran ferry. The run was essentially a sticky, sultry sufferfest. The last two kilometres in particular were purgatory.
  • Made up for my mediocre performance with a massive veggie breakfast on the Cal-Mac ferry over to Brodick. Proper athlete, me.
  • Bumbled about on Arran and stopped frequently to see what I could see. There wasn't anything particularly unusual. Common sandpipers caught my attention the most.
  • Visited the Machrie Moor stone circles, standing stones and cairns  (pic). They're much vaunted on Arran and were quite heavily touristed today. The complex is worthy, but - to be fair - I've seen much more impressive iterations across the Celtic world (apols to any offended Neolithic sun-worshiping ancestors watching over me).
  • Overnighting tonight at the same spot Emma and I slept in on the 1st of January this year. It's about 30 degrees C warmer now than the thick-iced, freezing-cold night we endured then! New year's day / longest day... same spot! Random weirdness.
Planning on hopping from Arran to the Kintyre peninsula sometime tomorrow.
